In via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. Kota Tua's Dutch colonial square in the evening, and the National Monument lit up afterwards.

When to go
Java's dry season is May to September, which is also when Bromo's sunrise is clear rather than fogged. The wet months from November to March make the crater rim road difficult and the sunrise a coin toss.
