When to go

December to April keeps the hills clear and the south coast calm. Balloons only fly in this window — the winds from May onward ground them, and no operator will pretend otherwise.

Most visitors need a Sri Lanka ETA before travelling. We send you the current link and a filled-in checklist once you've booked — but check your own government's advice too, because the rules move.
