Length6 days / 5 nights
Group2–16 travellers
Best monthsNov – Mar

Three nights of city and three of coast, which is the ratio most people actually want. Bangkok for the Grand Palace, the river and the food; Phuket as a base for the Phi Phi and Phang Nga day boats.

What you'll remember

  • The Grand Palace and Wat Pho's reclining Buddha
  • Longtail boat through the Thonburi khlongs
  • Phang Nga Bay's limestone karsts by speedboat
  • Maya Bay, entered on the early boat before the cap fills

  5. Phuket

Day by day

What actually happens.

  1. Direct from Colombo, three and a half hours. Airport rail into town, and an evening on the river — the Chao Phraya express boat is the best value transport in Asia.

Included

  • Return flights from Colombo plus the Bangkok–Phuket domestic leg
  • Five nights with breakfast
  • Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun with a guide
  • Phang Nga and Phi Phi boat days with lunch
  • Visa assistance and travel insurance

Not included

  • Most meals
  • National park fees on the boat days
  • Optional spa

When to go

November to March is the cool dry season and the Andaman is flat. From May to October the south-west monsoon closes island boats at short notice — if you must travel then we move you to the Gulf side instead, where the season is reversed.
