What actually happens.
Your driver-guide meets you inside the terminal at Bandaranaike. Negombo is twenty minutes away rather than Colombo's ninety, which matters after a long flight. If you've slept, walk the lagoon at dusk when the outrigger fleet comes in.

When to go
The dry zone is at its best from February to September. The north-east monsoon brings afternoon rain from October to January — the sites stay open, but Sigiriya's rock face gets slippery and we start earlier still.
Most visitors need a Sri Lanka ETA before travelling. We send you the current link and a filled-in checklist once you've booked — but check your own government's advice too, because the rules move.
